Some Great FriendFeed Finds
Posted on April 24th, 2009 No comments
As I said, for the next couple of weeks I’m playing with the new FriendFeed Beta so I’m holding off on the tutorials. However, because I’m a fan of FriendFeed, I’m wanting to share with you some of the discoveries I’ve made from some of the people and groups I’m subscribed to. So here are discoveries I’ve made this week: -
FriendFeed Beta Changes Everything.
Posted on April 17th, 2009 No comments
I’m going to hold off on the tutorials for a couple of weeks, because I’m playing with the new FriendFeed Beta site. My opinion so far is that it is a much better interface, but still has some learning curve issues. Therefore, I’m going to be playing with it for a little bit and then direct you to the beta site. I think you’ll benefit from that, especially if you’re new to FriendFeed.
In the mean time here is an interesting list of 500 FriendFeed Rooms. A Room in FriendFeed is like a group in FaceBook. It is a place where FF users can gather around a specific topic or issue. Conversations, links and pictures are shared with anyone who subscribes to that room. Rooms are really great resources to join on FF. I’m personally subscribed to rooms dealing with WordPress, Jazz, Science Fiction and others.
This listing is quite interesting. Not all the rooms are in English, but many of them are. I hope as you peruse the list that you’ll find some interesting ones to subscribe to.
I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with more FriendFeed info.

Adjusting Your FriendFeed Account
Posted on April 10th, 2009 No commentsFriendFeed has an account management area accessible by clicking the Account link on the menu at the top right of your personal feed page. This area allows you to select from several options so that FriendFeed operates in the way you best see fit. Let’s look as some of those options.

Adding Applications and Friends to your FriendFeed Account
Posted on April 3rd, 2009 No commentsOnce you’ve established your account with FriendFeed, it’s easy to get lost and wonder what to do. The important thing to remember is that FriendFeed serves two purposes. The first is to aggregate your activity on other social networking and social media sites. The second is to connect with and make new friends.
So the first thing you should do is add all of your social media sites to your account. You do this by first clicking on your user name located at the front of the menu at the top right of the screen. This will take you to your personal page. At the top of the page will be some tabs. The rightmost tab says “Add/edit services”. Click on that to bring up a menu of social media that FriendFeed supports (see image). -
FriendFeed from the Beginning
Posted on March 27th, 2009 No commentsOK. So you’re kind of sold on FriendFeed. The problem is that you’ve heard that there is a rather steep learning curve. I don’t know how steep it is, but making your way around FriendFeed does take some getting used to. Because of that, over the next several weeks, I’m going to start from the beginning and show you how to make the most out of your FriendFeed account.
I’m going to assume that you have already set up your FriendFeed account, but if you haven’t then go to http://friendfeed.com now and click on the “Join” link, then follow the instructions. Once your FriendFeed account is set up come back here and we’ll get started. Go ahead. I’ll wait right here.
Welcome back. Let’s get started.

FriendFeed and Twitter the Internet’s Dynamic Duo
Posted on March 20th, 2009 2 comments
I love Twitter. I’ve had so much fun meeting new people and getting to know them through this social networking site. I’m also a huge fan of FriendFeed. I’ve found so many fascinating web sites and slices of information through this great site. But I’m torn between the two. Dipping into the information stream that is created by these two sites can be a lot like trying to take a shower at the bottom of Niagra Falls. It’s really easy to get overwhelmed, so I’ve been thinking about how to manage the use of these two sites so that you don’t get squashed at the bottom of your information “shower”. The key, in my thinking, is to understand the best use of each site and then limit my use to reflect those purposes. Let me explain:

Three Features That Make FriendFeed Rock
Posted on March 13th, 2009 No comments
I love Twitter. It’s real time and you can meet and make friends with so many cool people. It’s where I spend most of my social networking time. However, Twitter is not without its problems. The main one is that because Twitter is a real-time stream, you can often miss a relevant part of a conversation, or a follow up post.Because it’s so easy to miss someone’s tweet, you might miss out on some juicy social media fun that one of your followers or friends has engaged in. This is where FriendFeed can be a great help.
